Does the “Malay” race exist?

Short Answer:

The short answer is ” NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “

Conclusion: No need for UMNO morons to make so much noise about the special privileges of Malays on the basis of them being  the ancestral ‘owners’ of Malaysia.

Long Answer:

UMNO morons have often manipulated the mainstream media and the many institutions of our country to ‘project’ that Malays are a unique race, a separate stock, like their Chinese or Indian counterparts and unlike their Indonesian counterparts. Nothing could be further from the truth! Read on !!!

An article from the theSTAR newspaper dated 3rd Dec 2006 puts it rather bluntly stating that ‘Malays’ are an aggregation of people of different ethnic backgrounds but who speak the same language or family of languages and share common cultural and traditional ties such as the Javanese, Bugis, Bawean, Achehnese, Thai etc.

Wait, it gets better. A book entitled “Contesting Malayness – Malay Identity Across Boundaries” (edited by Timothy P. Barnard & published by Singapore University Press) states that all anthropologists fundamentally agree that the ‘Malay’ race does not exist. This book has been banned in Malaysia !!!

I have saved the best piece for last! Mahatir ( yep, that’s our  infamous ex-PM) and Marina Mohammad have endorsed a book( they wrote the foreword in 1997)  from the “Archipelago Series” that states right in the introductory pages that “that the Malays migrated out of Southern China some 6,000yrs ago”.

Conclusion: No need for UMNO morons to make so much noise about the special privileges of Malays on the basis of them being  the ancestral ‘owners’ of Malaysia.

Miscellaneous ( Does ‘race’ exist ? ):

Many scientists have argued that race definitions are imprecise, arbitrary, derived from custom, have many exceptions, have many gradations, and that the numbers of races delineated vary according to the culture making the racial distinctions; thus they reject the notion that any definition of race pertaining to humans can have taxonomic rigour and validity as indicated at http://www.aaanet.org/stmts/racepp.htm.
